This role involves but is not limited to:

Responding to post, telephone enquiries and queries from prospective new clients.

Assisting Fee Earners in the Civil Litigation department and progressing cases where required.

Effective management of own time, ensuring that chargeable and non-chargeable hours targets are met under supervision.

Working on files as appropriate, including drafting letters, collating evidence, preparing cost letters.

To draft / assist in the drafting of all legal aid applications, reports and queries raised by the Legal Aid Agency.

Preparing Brief, Court and Expert Bundles.

Carrying out administrative duties as appropriate including updating referrer’s information, paying invoices and closing files.

To maintain an accurate diary [paper and on the IT system] updating as appropriate of all Key Dates, Limitation Dates, Hearing Dates, Direction, Client, Counsel, Expert & Other Meetings and to ensure Fee Earners are aware of all such dates.

To lead on Entering, maintaining, and updating Client details and relevant information on the system.

Managing legal documentation in strict confidence.

Assisting Fee Earners with case work.

Attending Client meetings, taking instructions and preparing cases.

To develop an understanding of the law and civil and coronial procedure and in respect of the police complaints system

Time recording billable work and maintaining accurate records of work undertaken and updating the relevant Fee Earner accordingly.


Ability to use case management systems

High standard of computer literacy

Must be adaptable and flexible

Must have good time management and organisational skills

Ability to work amidst frequent interruptions whilst maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team
