Roisin McCay, Legal STAR - Executive Assistant, Peterborough

Roisin is a high value fee earner and Executive Assistant in the Costs Department in Peterborough. This award recognises Roisin’s great work ethic which, along with her client care skills and driven personality, is backed up by her many years of experience in costs negotiation.  Feedback from a client praised the valuable advice Roisin gave about a highly technical case that involved reviewing multiple complex documents. She went over and above the client’s expectations, completing the case within a challenging timescale as well as saving them a significant amount of money.

Roisin says: “The area I work in involves costs negotiation, where I negotiate legal costs after the settlement of damages agreements."

“I was delighted when I found out I’d received the award - it was fantastic - it made me feel acknowledged and appreciated."

“I enjoy the work I do because there’s always something new to learn and apply, and each case is different. The role can be challenging at times, mainly because there are always changes in the law and rules. As fee earners, we need to keep on top of these and adapt to apply the relevant legal principles.

“One of the reasons I love working for Taylor Rose TTKW is the people. I consider my team to be more than just peers, they are also friends. Another reason I enjoy working here is the opportunity to develop myself and my career. There are always training and workshops available to learn and develop skills. I also feel that the company really supports its employees in achieving their goals and fulfilling their potential.

“I think my key to success in my job is my drive. I’m always striving to learn more, do more, be more efficient and provide the best service possible for the client.

“If I could pass on a tip to my colleagues, I would say being proactive is key. Don’t put off until tomorrow what could be achieved today!”

When Roisin is not at work she’s either at home in Peterborough (where she was born),  with her partner James, son Harrison and their three cats, Gideon, Opie and Gabriel - or strutting her stuff on stage with her band.

“Outside work and home, the thing I love to do best is sing. I’m in a six-piece function band called Hit 4 Six, with my father, eldest sister and uncle. It’s not unknown, but had I not been a teenage mother, I would have spent my life trying to build a career in performance. My passions have always been singing, dancing and acting (in that order).

“If I’m not driving - my guilty pleasure is Jägermeister - and when I want to listen to music, watch a movie, or read a book, then my go to choice is Metal - The Crow or Enter the Dragon and - Lord of the Rings.

Right now I’m re-watching The Punisher on Netflix and reading the first book in the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time series (as urged by a cousin since we were ten years’ old).
