Quarterly Star Award Corporate winner Paul Roberts - April 2019
Paul Roberts, Exectuive Assistant to Adrian & Antony Jaggard, is this quarter's Star Award Corporate Winner. Based at the Peterborough office, Paul’s job is to make sure Adrian and Antony’s work-life runs as smoothly as possible. In June he will have been with the firm for three years.
Paul says: “I was very pleased and proud when I was told I had won this quarter’s Star Award, because I’ve been nominated by my colleagues.
“I really enjoy my job, especially feeling I’m able to make a difference. I really like the different facets of working for the firm, especially the variety of my work, such as being able to interact with people across the whole of the business at all levels. However, the most challenging part of my role is keeping tabs on Adrian and Antony (the boys) - I need to fit them with trackers!
“I think being successful at what you do is to be good at your job and enjoy what you do to the best of your ability. For me, I like interacting with my work colleges face-to-face - not just sending out emails.
“Everyone’s different and it’s good to get to know people and help them out when you can, or to offer a different point of view. Your experience can help to solve a problem, even if it’s not your area of expertise. If I could give anyone a tip to being successful in their job, I would say to treat people how you would like to be treated.”
Paul was born in London and lives with his wife Helen, who he married on his birthday last May. He has a son Josh and two stepdaughters, Eloise and Amy. They also have two cats, Missy and Bella, who are sisters.
“Outside work I love riding my motorbike, it gives me a real sense of freedom, I also like fishing and visiting historic places around the country, plus I enjoy DIY. If I could name a guilty pleasure it would be Peach flavoured ice cream. For me it’s like searching for the crock of gold that’s supposedly at the end of the rainbow, it can be that hard to find!
“When it comes to music, I have an eclectic taste, from rock to classical and everything in-between. My favourite film is Top Gun. In fact, my neighbour used to fly those jets and went on to teach at the Top Gun School - or ‘The United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor Program’ which it should be known as.
“When we’re at home relaxing we tend to watch a lot of factual medical, emergency services or animal programs. Brain surgery live was very interesting! At the moment I’m reading books about people’s personal experience of the world wars. I like going abroad. We went to Thailand on our honeymoon in 2018. The people there are so friendly, the food is delicious and the setting can be so magical. I’m off to Guernsey soon to see my best friends, we love visiting the island, and much later in the year we’re going to Lanzarote.
“One thing not many people know about me is that I’ve rubbed sun cream into an Aardvark to stop it getting sunburnt when I was a zookeeper for the day.”
Thanks Paul, and congratulations on winning your award!
