Making a fatal accident claim
One option is to claim a Bereavement Award under the the Fatal Accidents Act but this is not straightforward and the maximum award is currently £15,120.00. Blame in full or in part must be accepted and strict criteria about who can claim the Award apply, however the accident was caused. We will legally assess the circumstances of the incident and your family's financial circumstances. We will establish:
- What role your loved one played in financially supporting other family members.
- What might they have spent on themselves and contributed to.
- How might their work have progressed, and income increased over time.
- What did your loved one do around the house that now you will need someone else to do and may now need to pay for.
When a person under 18 has died, we will also consider if any award needs to be approved by the Court.
