Emily Hewlett

Partner, Head of Group Litigation & Interim Head of Commercial Litigation

Emily Hewlett is the Head of Group Litigation and Interim Head of Commercial Litigation at Taylor Rose, specialising in commercial disputes, group litigation and high-value claims. She advises individuals, businesses and institutions on large-scale, often highly sensitive matters, bringing a commercially aware approach with practical advice tailored to every matter.

Prior to joining Taylor Rose, Emily worked at an international law firm, where she developed extensive expertise in complex litigation. Emily is also a member of The Collective Redress Lawyers Association - CORLA.

Emily’s practice centers on large-scale, complex litigation. Her experience includes:

  • Representing over 600,000 claimants in a £36 billion claim against mining giant BHP.

  • Acting for 18,000 claimants in a multi-million-pound international environmental claim.

  • Representing claimants in the highly publicised ‘dieselgate’ claim against multiple vehicle manufacturers.

Emily also advises on general and complex commercial litigation. Recent matters include:

  • Acting for a company in a £7 million breach of mandate claim against a major UK bank.

  • Advising a director on an overdrawn directors’ loan account claim brought against him by liquidators in an insolvency matter.

  • Advising a former director on his liability for a £200,000 loan secured under a personal guarantee.

Emily’s approach is centred on understanding the people behind the dispute. She believes in listening first, taking the time to understand each client’s circumstances, priorities and objectives before advising on the best way forward. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, Emily works collaboratively with clients to provide clear, pragmatic guidance that is tailored to their individual needs. Clients value her empathetic and approachable manner, alongside her ability to communicate complex issues in a straightforward and reassuring way.
