World Earth Day takes place on the 22nd April with many organisations working to aid with environmental issues including:
Climate and environmental literacy
End plastic pollution
Conservation and restoration
Food and environment
Act on climate change
World Earth Day is organised by EARTHDAY.ORG who’s mission is to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide.
We work with Healey’s Printers and the World Land Trust (WLT) to minimise our carbon footprint by opting in to their carbon balancing initiative.
Carbon balancing was established in 2005 and is one of the most effective methods of fighting climate change. This is where the carbon impacts of our printing have been estimated and an equivalent amount of carbon dioxide is offset, helping to protect and restore threatened tropical habitat.
Healey’s became one of the first Carbon Balanced Publication Printers. By using Healey’s, we are helping numerous WLT projects worldwide.
They are committed to balancing all their production/publications as well as their transportation.
They also use carbon balanced paper, environmentally friendly inks, and green processes for all our branded merchandise that we order. This includes: our conveyancing guides, business cards and other printed branded literature.
Healey’s are accredited members of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification which ensures that paper products come from well managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. Aswell as this Healey's is a part of the carbon capture in conjunction with premier paper. This is the Woodland Carbon Scheme offers customers the opportunity to capture CO2 emissions from paper used for their literature by planting native woodland.
In 2021, we managed to balance the equivalent of 1,008kg of carbon dioxide and protect 670m2 of threatened tropical habitat. This is comparable to the height of 6 double decker buses.
The World Land Trust has various projects worldwide aiding in the protection and restoration of threatened tropical habitat's. The project that we have supported in 2021 is based in Vietnam, where both WLT and Viet Nature Conservation Centre are working together.
Vietnam is one of the most biologically diverse countries harbouring around 10 per cent of the world species. For instance, the Red-Shanked Douc and Saola. The project that they are working on is based in the Annamite Mountain Range in the north of the island – Khe Nuoc Trong. The project aims to:
Allow natural regeneration of degraded areas within the 52,210-acre forest
Research and apply sustainable solutions to nature and biodiversity conservation
“To save species we must save ecosystems. To save ecosystems we must save land. If it is saving species and their ecosystems that is important to you then I know of no better organisation to support than the World Land Trust.” – Sir David Attenborough, WLT Patron
So far in 2022 (1st January to 24th March), we have managed to balance the equivalent of 24kg of carbon dioxide and protect 5m2 of threatened tropical habitat. We hope that this figure continues to grow, and we can continue to help ongoing projects in the world.
As the firm grows, we hope that our work alongside Healey’s Printers and the World Land Trust will further support a sustainable future.
