Taylor Rose’s new charity partner for 2023/2024: Papyrus

We are thrilled to say hello to our new charity partner for 2023/24: Papyrus.

Every year our Social & Charity Committee asks staff to nominate and vote for a new charity partner with a wide range of suggestions, Papyrus was a clear winner.

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is committed to preventing suicide and promoting positive mental health and emotional well-being among young individuals. Their core belief is that no young person should face the burden of suicidal thoughts alone.

In the UK, suicide is the leading cause of death among people aged 35 and under. PAPYRUS was established with the primary goal of reducing the incidence of youth suicide by dismantling the stigma surrounding it and empowering both young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to signs of suicidal behaviour.

Each year, thousands of young people grapple with thoughts of suicide, engage in self-harm, or suffer silently, hesitant to openly discuss their emotions. PAPYRUS extends its support through HOPELINE247, a confidential service designed for individuals under the age of 35 who may be grappling with suicidal thoughts, as well as those concerned about a young-person’s well-being. Fundraising for PAPYRUS has now started and ends in Summer 2024.

With fundraising beginning in our offices nationwide including dress-down days, bake sales, online activities and much more.

We have also donated to the charities that came in 2^nd and 3^rd place in our all-staff vote. In second place was Abigail’s Footsteps who are a charity who aim to improve the care and support given to parents around Stillbirth and neonatal bereavement.

Followed by Silver Fox who rescue and rehabilitate dogs in a foster home environment when dogs cannot stay in their own homes due to situations out of the owner’s control such as bereavement, health issues, financial issues etc.

Louisa Bazett, Secretary of our Social & Charity Committee said: “There was an outpouring of voting and support for so many charities this year and I am very pleased to inform you that all of our nominated charities received multiple votes and many amazing charities were nominated.”

We are looking forward to fundraising and supporting PAPYRUS on their mission to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives, by shattering the stigma surround suicide and equipping young people and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to emotional distress.
