Taylor Rose MW Assists Liverpool Hope University Law Clinic

Thu 16 February 2023 Taylor Rose MW Assists Liverpool Hope University Law Clinic

Taylor Rose MW has expanded its community-based projects in assisting the Law Clinic at Liverpool Hope University.

The Law Clinic was launched at their South Liverpool Campus with an aim to provide legal guidance for local individuals. The clinic will offer advice in a number of areas of law including employment law, landlord and tenant issues, consumer law and family law.

The Liverpool Hope University Law Clinic is a student ran clinic, providing confidential legal advice free of charge. The students are supervised by qualified Solicitors throughout the entire process and will provide written advice following an initial interview.

Members of our Family Law team will be working alongside the University to help advise the students on various Family matters.

Darren White, Associate Solicitor in our Family & Children department will be overseeing the work in the Clinic. Darren will be advising on divorce and separation; private law children matters and non-molestation matters.

Darren White had the following to say when asked about supporting the Law Clinic, “I am really excited to be working with the next generation of lawyers to provide them with the practical assistance and support required to develop key skills when interviewing and advising clients.”

He continues, “Law clinics are something which were sadly not around before I qualified, they offer a great opportunity for students to work alongside highly qualified professionals. Through my work with various other law clinics, I’ve seen how crucial the support and guidance given to students is for their personal and professional development. This is something that myself and my colleagues at Taylor Rose MW are very passionate about.”

The clinics will be taking place both in person and remotely via Microsoft teams. Our Family Law Solicitors will be observing and advising the students when conducting client interviews. The students will provide no verbal advice but will provide written letters of advice to the client following an initial interview. This written advice will be given all under the supervision of a Solicitor who will amend and counsel the student before any communication is given to the client.

Nicola Jones-King, Partner and Head of our Family & Children department commented on the current need for Law Clinics and the support her team is giving to these young professionals.

“There have been significant gaps in funding since the Legal Aid System was overhauled in 2012. Sadly, a lot of people who would have qualified for legal aid will no longer be eligible for funding.”

“As such, many people who desperately need legal advice have suffered. We are committing to giving back to our local communities in order to make legal advice available for everyone. This can be reflected by our involvement with various Law Clinics in the UK. Liverpool Hope University are well known for their community outreach work, and we are very pleased to be working alongside them.”

Together with the Liverpool Hope University, our Family Law team also work with the following Universities Law Clinics:

Not only do the clinics enable us to provide clients with access to legal advice they wouldn’t otherwise have access to. Taylor Rose MW are committed to supporting Law Students develop key skills required in the Legal Profession.

We want to guide the next generation of legal professionals to give excellent quality advice and believe working alongside our specialist legal team is the most beneficial way to do this. We are proud to have been able to offer several of the students we have previously worked with legal placements and SQE opportunities within the firm.
