Mon 27 March 2023 What is The Taylor Rose MW Work Experience Programme?

We are thrilled to announce the Taylor Rose MW Work Experience Programme which has been introduced to give students an inclusive experience and platform to develop crucial skills within a top 60 Law Firm.

What is our work experience programme?

The programme has been developed to give students a chance to shadow and understand each of our departments within the office which they are assigned to. The students will attend an ‘interview’ before their placement to give them a real-life understanding of how a competency-based interview will be conducted.

They will then be invited to attend Taylor Rose MW training sessions. This will include workshops on CV writing and how to tackle tricky job applications. At the end of the assignment, they will be given a testimonial to confirm their attendance which they can then use on their CV.

We asked Jenny Tod, Recruitment Manager, and creator of our internal work experience programme on why she thought providing quality experience to students across the UK was crucial for the future development of our young professionals:

“Having spoken to leaders within the Education sector, after the pandemic students have missed out on a lot of learning and practical experience so this offers them a platform and opportunity to develop their skills within a Law Firm. The experience can help provide the confidence, knowledge, and support to help guide that individual to achieve their future ambitions. It also allows a large and diverse firm like Taylor Rose MW to nurture future talent and is something all businesses should support."

"These students could be our future trainees and rising stars in the world of law which is why it’s more crucial now than ever to provide them with the support and guidance early on in their careers.”

We will be offering work experience in multiple areas of the firm and if you happen to be over the age of 18 you will also be able to complete your work experience in our Crime and Extradition, Family and Children and, Clinical Negligence departments. For all those under the age of 18, we still offer a wide range of departments to choose from including:

·        Conveyancing

·        Remortgage

·        Litigation

·        Commercial

·        Post Completion

Although we're offering many different areas of legal work experience, if this is not something of interested there are many other teams in our operations department that they can apply for a placement in. For example, Finance, IT, Audit, HR and Marketing.

The placements will range from one to ten days and during the duration of your time with the firm the student will shadow members of the team to understand the case management system, the process of a matter and tasks relevant to the role. They may also be asked to assist in general administration and office-based tasks.

The experience is open for all students to apply, even if they have never studied law before. These work placements in are being offered in all of our offices which you will be able to view here.

A student who recently completed their work experience with us was influenced to choose business as one of their GCSE subjects, something they were extremely worried and uncertain about before the placement with the firm. They explained the process of joining the programme as ‘quick and easy’ and seemed to take a lot on board during their placement even presenting their learnings on the different types of law and what conveyancing involves to their teacher.

Jenny Tod commented, “It’s great to both see and hear the enthusiasm of the students completing our placements and it’s feedback like this which truly shows how important it is to help guide and support the younger generation to make the right decisions for their careers early on.”
