Taylor Rose MW Supports National Apprenticeship Week

Fri 9 February 2024 Taylor Rose MW Supports National Apprenticeship Week

Taylor Rose MW is committed to ongoing professional development, actively promoting and supporting staff in expanding their skills and knowledge through various learning opportunities. Our apprenticeship programs are designed to offer a blend of practical on-the-job training and theoretical education.

As National Apprenticeship Week comes to a close, we aim to spotlight some of our past and present apprentices, highlighting the significance of apprenticeships in fostering both personal and professional development.

Roisin McCay - Level 6 Chartered Legal Executive

Roisin McCay is currently the Accreditations, Risk, and Compliance Coordinator, overseeing the firm's accreditations and ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures. Commencing her apprenticeship in January 2020 with the goal of becoming a Chartered Legal Executive, Roisin engages in a comprehensive curriculum covering legal topics at both Level 3 and Level 6.

Roisin began studying law when she was eighteen and, having worked with Taylor Rose MW since 2011, saw qualification as the next natural step in her career progression. Opting for the apprenticeship route aligned perfectly with her career aspirations.

How has the apprenticeship contributed to your professional development?

“Studying a variety of legal aspects complimented my role as I’m able to apply the knowledge to the majority of the departments within the firm.”

Roisin finds the apprenticeship particularly rewarding as it has broadened her legal knowledge and bolstered her effectiveness within her role. She aspires to be an invaluable asset to the firm, a goal she believes the apprenticeship has significantly supported.

Despite facing challenges, notably disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, remote and flexible learning proved invaluable during these uncertain times, ensuring continuity in her educational journey.

Jumana Younus - Level 5 Operational Manager

Jumana is a Communications Support Operation Manager, where she oversees a dedicated team handling incoming main line calls, on the front line of the business. With a tenure of 14.5 years at Taylor Rose MW, she began her journey as a receptionist in 2009.

In November 2021, Jumana began her Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership, successfully completing the course in August 2023. Throughout her apprenticeship, she tackled eight assignments exploring various management theories, their practical applications, and their relevance to her daily responsibilities.

Some key elements of her apprenticeship included:

Jumana decided to pursue an apprenticeship to challenge her abilities, gain new skills, and understand how her established work experiences could be better applied. For her, this was a process of continuous improvement both personally and professionally.

She has been awarded Chartered Manager status, providing professional recognition of her management and leadership skills, alongside her Level 5 diploma. Combined, these achievement’s have instilled in her a renewed sense of motivation and confidence in her abilities.

Reflecting on challenges encountered during her apprenticeship, Jumana refers to the need to complete a Maths Level 2 Functional Skills exam. Despite grappling with emotional baggage from past experiences with the subject, she found overcoming this hurdle to be immensely satisfying.

The apprenticeship presented both personal and professional challenges for Jumana, yet she acknowledges that these challenges were instrumental to her growth. She believes that without confronting them, she wouldn't have gained the confidence or self-belief to successfully complete them.

How has your apprenticeship made you a better leader?

“I have much wider operational understanding which has changed how I approach tasks. Increased problem-solving skills has allowed me to find new solutions to team challenges. Completing my studies alongside my role has allowed me to actively apply knowledge gained which has reinforced my learning. Mentorship from my direct manager and the support from HR have been invaluable.”

Morgan Latham - Level 3 Assistant Accountant

Morgan Latham has been an integral part of Taylor Rose MW for seven years, starting as a junior account assistant and steadily advancing to the role of Senior Legal Biller.

Morgan embarked on his apprenticeship in 2021 and successfully completed it in 2023, opting to pursue ACCA studies over AAT. His apprenticeship involved rigorous self-study, weekly college classes, and collaboration with colleagues to fulfil portfolio criteria.

Motivated by a desire to deepen his understanding of finance and advance within the firm, Morgan found the apprenticeship instrumental in equipping him with the skills needed to engage in meaningful discussions with senior management.

While not facing significant challenges during their apprenticeship, Morgan found the gradual accumulation of knowledge to be the most rewarding aspect of their journey.

National Apprenticeship Week serves as a reminder of the invaluable role apprenticeships play in assisting with personal and professional growth. As highlighted by the experiences and achievements of individuals within Taylor Rose MW, apprenticeships offer a pathway to acquiring practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and invaluable mentorship.
